“Emphasis on silhouette design”
First of all the silhouette of a garment, which often refers to the general outline of the external shape of the garment, is as fundamental as the shape of the garment, and is often faster and stronger than the local details of the garment when it enters people’s vision, second only to the colour effect of the garment.
In terms of the overall silhouette, the conventional classification is based on the letter shape, which is mainly divided into H, O, A, X and T. This way of naming garment silhouettes after letters was first introduced by Dior and has been used ever since.
Of these one-letter silhouettes.
Type H is a flat-shouldered, untucked waist silhouette with a tube hem.
O-shape is a silhouette with pronounced angles at the shoulders, waist and hem, especially at the waist where the line is loose and forms an oval.
The A-shape is a silhouette with narrow shoulders that gradually widens from the armpits.
the X-shape is a silhouette with a natural shoulder line and a pronounced bust, waistline and hip line design
The T-shape is a silhouette with exaggerated shoulders and an inward hemline to form a wide top and narrow bottom.
Specifically for products such as down jackets.
Due to the special performance and comfort requirements of the down jacket, the most common silhouettes are the H, A and X. The O and T silhouettes are rarely seen in realistic women’s down jackets because they do not meet the requirements of warmth and comfort.
In other silhouette details, however, there are different waistlines and waistless silhouettes, especially in the case of women’s down jackets, where the waist is usually more visible to the wearer.
It is the position of the waistline of the down jacket that also makes the wearer’s proportions different. There are also differences in the hemline of the down jacket strands in terms of width and height. The height of the hem directly affects the visual effect of the body in the horizontal direction, while the increase in height effectively defines the length of the down jacket.
There is the usual basis for defining this as
short down coats where the hemline is around the hip area of the body, and first-hand long down coats where the hemline of the garment is at the same height as the sleeves when they hang naturally.
medium-length down jackets where the hemline is positioned between the position of the one-handed-length version and above the knee.
A hemline that is at the knee and below is called a long down jacket.
“Keeping up with the hottest colours of the moment”
When people look at a garment, their direct perception of the colour is often stronger than the overall silhouette and other identifiable details of the garment, so it is clear that the use of colour in a garment can have an important impact on the overall atmosphere and aesthetic feel of the garment.
For designers, the use and grasp of colour should not only focus on the age, personality, lifestyle and other factors of the target consumer, but also combine with the wearer’s skin tone, body type, fabric and wearing occasion to carry out targeted processing and application in terms of the colour family, colour brightness, colour warmth and coolness and even fabric pattern style. In addition, it is also necessary to follow the colour trends to meet the fashionable pursuit of people for clothing colours.
The colour design of the down jacket, in the clothing category initially came into public life, mainly for the black and white grey-based, later with other clothing categories embracing the continuous changes have also been enriched, in recent years there are also multi-colour stitching and even fabric pattern settings and other down jacket with colour form.
Ordinary consumers for wearing down jacket colour requirements, in addition to meet their own preferences and from the colour popular, dirt resistance and easy to match is also people in the purchase of down jacket will take into account the colour influence factors. Some professional outdoor down jackets also have specific colour requirements, mainly from the point of view of safety and identifiability.
We asked 30 local women at the shopping mall, of whom 24 said colour was important and six said they didn’t care about colour as long as the style looked good.
“Good fabrics and materials are fundamental”
There are four main areas of material application in down jackets: filling, fabric, lining and accessories. Among them, the fabric in the down jacket application needs to meet the requirements in addition to the basic in line with the fabric waterproof, dirt-proof and good breathability, but also need to have a good anti-drilling performance. This is to prevent the continuous loss of down filling in the down jacket, which reduces the warmth of the down jacket.
The lining also needs to be breathable and comfortable, with a focus on anti-pilling. As a special material component of down garments, the filler refers to the down filling inside the garment.
Down is the main filling material in down garments and is filled into the compartments of the down fabric through drying, washing, grading and other related processes. The warmth of down is measured by the amount of down it contains and the amount of filling material.
In general, the higher the down content, the better the warmth. The higher the weight of the filling, the higher the warmth of the down jacket. Currently the main down material in China is taken from the reed-like down on the abdomen of waterfowl such as ducks and geese, which consists of both down and feathers.
The down provides the main warmth, while the feathers improve the fluffiness of the down jacket, and both are used in the down jacket in different proportions depending on the situation. The main types of down are white goose down, grey duck down, white duck down and grey duck down.
In particular, grey duck down is used for filling, while some domestic and international premium down brands use duck down fibres that are softer and longer, with a larger pile, so under the same conditions goose down will have a better thermal performance than duck down, corresponding to a higher cost than duck down.
